Abstract
Emotions and level of stress in speakers can often be perceived by sound of voice,
which is an integral part of successful communication. Regardless of age, people with
audible voice disorders are judged more negatively by the listener in terms of attractiveness
or reliability the more dysphonic they sound. In addition, people with voice disorders
exhibit more stress symptoms and dysfunctional coping strategies than those with healthy
voices. Further studies are necessary to clarify whether the observed differences
are the consequence or cause of a voice disorder. The article provides an overview
of the current state of research on the connection between anxiety and depression,
as well as negative personality ascriptions, experiencing stress and coping with stress
in the case of voice disorders.
