Introduction

Heterotaxic syndromes are uncommon embryopathies with an unfavorable prognosis. Left heterotaxy (also called polysplenic syndrome or left isomerism) predominates in females. Cardiac defects are less common and more serious than in asplenic patients, but digestive problems are more common. Intestinal malrotation, gastric volvulus, duodenal sub-occlusion and biliary atresia are possible.

We report a clinical patient who is, as far as the authors are concerned, the first published case of a retro-hepatic gastric volvulus presenting in a patient with left isomerism.
