Summary
Phototherapy is a very old and an established dermatological treatment option. Already the ancient egyptians used the therapeutic effects of natural sunlight to treat skin diseases. The beginning of the 20th century then marked the start of modern phototherapy. One focus was the treatment of psoriasis, for which broadband UVB was initially used. Since these beginnings the indication spectrum has expanded over the many years of clinical practice. Nowadays there are quite a few dermatological and medical conditions, in which a UVB-phototherapy is the first line treatment option. This review discusses the most common clinical indications for UVB-phototherapy.
