Congenital Segmental Dilatation of the Small Bowel (CSD)

Abstract

Congenital segmental dilatation (CSD) is a rare pathology of unknown etiology, usually with early-onset presentation in the neonatal age. We present a case of CSD of the jejunum of a 9-year-old boy with severe malnutrition. Its clinical, radiological and histological features are similar to those described in the literature but the remarkable aspect of this case lies in its late presentation.

La dilatation segmentaire congénitale (CSD) est une pathologie rare, d'étiologie inconnue avec une présentation très précoce en période néonatale. Nous présentons un cas de CSD du jéjunum chez un garçon de 9 ans avec une malnutrition sévère. La clinique, la radiologie et l'histologie sont similaires à ceux décrits dans la littérature mais le caractère remarquable de ce cas est cette présentation tardive.

La dilatación segmentaria congénita (CSD) es una entidad rara de etiología desconocida que se presenta generalmente en la edad neonatal. Presentamos un caso de CSD del yeyuno en un niño de 9 años con malnutrición grave. Sus características clínicas, radiológicas e histológicas son similares a las descritas en la literatura destacando en este caso su presentación tardía.

Die angeborene segmentale Dilatation (CSD) ist eine sehr seltene Erkrankung unbekannter Ätiologie. Sie beginnt gewöhnlich bereits früh im Neugeborenenalter. Wir stellen einen 9 Jahre alten Knaben vor mit schwerer Unterernährung aufgrund einer angeborenen Dünndarm-Dilatation. Die klinischen, radiologischen und histologischen Befunde werden dargestellt. Sie entsprechen denen in der Literatur. Ungewöhnlich ist jedoch die späte Symptomatik.
