In der Kinder- und Jugendpsychiatrie wiederholt sich aktuell eine Diskussion, die
vor mehr als zehn Jahren bereits in der allgemeinen Psychiatrie geführt wurde. Auch
damals wurde hypostasiert, dass der Einsatz von SSRIs das suizidale Risiko erhöhen
könnte; dies ist längst widerlegt [5]

[26]. Es kam zu einer großen Verunsicherung in der therapeutischen Praxis, die die nicht
eindeutige Stellungnahme der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Kinder- und Jugendpsychiatrie
nicht zu entkräften vermochte [10]. In den letzten 24 Monaten ist aufgrund von publizierten und vor allem unpublizierten
Arbeiten die Meinung entstanden, dass neue Antidepressiva das Risiko eines Suizids
erhöhen können. Festzuhalten ist, dass in diesen zur Beurteilung herangezogenen Studien
kein einziger Suizid geschah und die Sicherheit bei über 4000 Patienten recht eindrucksvoll
belegt werden konnte [19]

[43]. Es wurde lediglich in einigen Studien ein geringer Anstieg „suizidalen Verhaltens”
beobachtet. Suizidales Verhalten schließt eine breite Palette von Symptomen von suizidalen
Gedanken über selbstverletzendes Verhalten bis hin zu Suizidversuchen ein [16]

[32]. Die Food and Drug Administration (FDA) hat bereits kritisiert, dass die Interpretation
des Begriffs „suizidales Verhalten” nicht eindeutig definiert war und in den verschiedenen
Studien sehr unterschiedlich beurteilt wurde [11]. Dennoch hat die FDA entsprechende Schritte eingeleitet.
