Abstract

A practical route to 2,3-bis(amino)-1-alcohols has been developed and utilized in the synthesis of a number of novel bis(oxazoline) ligands.

6

Previously we have studied the displacement of activated alcohols from 4-(hydroxymethyl)oxazolines and the modification of 4-(carboxylate)oxazolines but, ultimately, all these routes led to decomposition, normally via elimination.

Occasionally a close running impurity was observed, this could be removed via TBDMS protection, purification, and deprotection in good yields (80-90%).
