Die Indikationen für perioperative diagnostische, medikamentöse, interventionelle und operative Maßnahmen sind im Allgemeinen identisch mit denen ohne eine nachfolgende Operation. Die zeitliche Abfolge ist jedoch oft abhängig von zusätzlichen Faktoren wie beispielsweise der Dringlichkeit des operativen Eingriffs und erfordert eine gute Kommunikation und Zusammenarbeit zwischen Chirurgen, Anästhesisten und Internisten.
