A novel chlorin quinone dyad 5 and the benzochlorin derivative 8 were synthesized. Synthetic key step for the preparation of the chlorin derivatives is an unusual cascade of reactions which transforms sulfolenobilin rac-3a,b into the chlorin macrocycle with concomitant anellation of the benzoid moieties.
