Simple Testicular Cyst in Infants: A Case Report and Review of the Literature

Summary

We report a 5-month-old boy with testicular cyst. He presented with a right inguinal hernia and a scrotal mass. Ultrasonography showed a cystic mass in the right testicular parenchyma, suggesting a testicular cyst. He underwent right herniotomy and unroofing of the cyst. Simple testicular cyst is extremely rare with only 48 cases reported in the literature. Of these cases, 8 patients were less than two years old. The diagnosis of simple testicular cyst can be made preoperatively with ultrasonography. Testis-preserving excision or unroofing the cyst is the treatment of choice.

Nous rapportons le cas d'un garçon de 5 mois avec un kyste testiculaire. Il se présentait avec une hernie inguinale droite et une masse scrotale. L'échographie montrait une masse kystique dans le parenchyme testiculaire droit, suggérant un kyste testiculaire. Cet enfant a subit une cure de hernie droite et l'exérèse de la partie superficielle du kyste. Le kyste testiculaire simple est extrêmement rare, avec seulement 48 cas rapportés dans la littérature. Parmi eux, 8 étaient âgés de moins de 2 ans. Le diagnostic de kyste testiculaire simple peut être fait en pre-opératoire par l'échographie. L'excision préservant le testicule ou l'excision de la partie superficielle du kyste sont les traitements de choix.

Resumen

Presentamos un niño de 5 meses con quiste testicular simple. Se presentó como una hernia inguinal derecha con masa escrotal. La ecografía mostró una masa quística en el parénquima testicular derecho sugiriendo un quiste testicular. Se le hizo una herniotomía derecha y un destechamiento del quiste. El quiste testicular simple es extremadamente raro con sólo 48 casos reportados en la literatura. Entre ellos 8 tenían menos de 2 años. El diagnóstico de quiste testicular simple puede hacerse preoperatoriamente mediante ecografía. La extirpación preservadora del testiculo o el destechamiento del quiste son los tratamientos de elección.

Zusammenfassung

Wir berichten über einen 5 Monate alten Knaben mit einer Hodenzyste. Hodenzysten sind außerordentlich selten. Der Knabe stellte sich wegen eines Skrotaltumors bei gleichzeitiger Leistenhernie rechts vor. Die Sonografie ergab eine zystische Veränderung im Bereich des rechten Hodenparenchyms. Es wurde eine rechtsseitige Herniotomie durchgeführt und die Zyste lediglich entdacht.

In der Literatur sind nur 48 Fälle einer Hodenzyste berichtet, 8 der Kinder waren unter 2 Jahre alt. Die Diagnose dieser Erkrankung ist per Ultraschall einfach möglich. Therapeutisch genügt eine Entdachung der Zyste ohne weitere Therapie.
