In jüngster Zeit kommt es zu neuen Herausforderungen im Bereich gastrointestinaler Infektionen. Dies liegt einmal daran, dass sowohl bei Immunkompetenten als auch bei Immuninkompetenten in den letzten Jahren neue Erreger beschrieben wurden, zum anderen auch daran, dass durch den stetig wachsenden weltweiten Tourismus immer mehr gastrointestinale Infektionen importiert werden. Die Therapie der infektiösen akuten Enteritis hat in erster Linie eine Flüssigkeits- und Elektrolytsubstitution zum Ziel.
