Methyl acrylates and azomethine ylides linked to a planar chiral arene Cr(CO)3 complex underwent highly diastereoselective [3+2] cycloadditions with regioselectivities that could be controlled by the choice of the Lewis acid. Decomplexation yielded enantiopure pyrrolidines.
