NBu4BH4 performs the ionic hydrogenation of α-ferrocenyl aldehydes, ketones and alcohols in excellent yields in the presence of zinc chloride. This method allows synthesis of alkylferrocenes with reagent sensitive chromophores and is adaptable to multigram preparations.
