8-Hydroxyquinolines are synthesized from O-2,4-dinitrophenyloximes of m-hydroxyphenethyl ketones by the treatment with sodium hydride, and then with 2,3-dichloro-4,5-dicyano-p-benzoquinone (DDQ).
