A facile method for the introduction of azide at the C-4 position of KDN2en and KDO2en is described. This is accomplished by BF3⋅Et2O-catalysed addition of azidotrimethylsilane to peracetate methyl esters of KDN2en (10) and KDO2en (15/16).
