The enantiomeric compound (2) corresponding to the common C31-C40 fragment of pectenotoxins, diarrhetic shellfish toxins, was first synthesized through the pathway involving the stereoselective generation of the α-lithiated tetrahydrofuran derivative (4) as the key stage.
