Addition of a variety of simple and functionalised organozinc reagents (R2Zn or RZnX) to a structurally diverse range of glycals takes place in the presence of either BF3.OEt2 or TMSOTf and efficiently leads to C(1)-glycosides with selectivity for the α-isomer.
