5,6-Dihydro-2-dimethylamino-1,3-dithiolo[4,5-b][1,4]oxathiin-2-ium hexafluorophosphate 8 was synthesized in four steps from 1,4-oxathiane in ≉ 19% yield. 8 was converted to the corresponding 1,3-dithiole-2-thione 9 and subsequently 1,3-dithiol-2-one 10. A 1:1 mixture of 9 and 10 was coupled in trimethyl phosphite to the title compound 3 in 35% yield.
