The treatment of substituted phenol ethers or naphthalenes with hypervalent iodine reagent, phenyliodine(III) bis(trifluoroacetate) (PIFA) and various thiophenols in 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoro-2-propanol [(CF3)2CHOH] caused direct sulfenylation to produce unsymmetric diaryl sulfides.
