By using dihydroxymetacyclophanes, a new calix[4]arene family, which kept the cone-conformation between r.t. and 140 °C in DMSO, was successfully synthesized in excellent yields. The several derivatives sufficiently show the selectivity and extractability as excellent ionophores for alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, transition metals, and lanthanoids.
