Tellurophosphoranes are prepared by a transylidation reaction of an alkylidenetriphenylphosphorane and PhTeBr and from triphenylphosphonium dihalotellurolate on reaction with bases. The tellurophosphoranes react with aldehydes ”in situ” to give vinylic tellurides with preferential Z stereochemistry.
