New supramolecular ferrocene derivatives 9-16 have been produced from precursors synthesised from alumina-catalysed Knoevenagel reactions of ferrocenecarboxaldehyde. The UV-Vis spectra for each compound revealed solvatochromic behaviour, which augur well for these materials to display nonlinear optical (NLO) properties.
