A novel and efficient synthesis of a number of 2-(substituted amino)benzoxazoles is described. 6-Chloro-2-phenoxybenzoxazole (3) reacts smoothly with a series of aliphatic primary amines 4a-j to give 6-chloro-2-(substituted amino)benzoxazoles 5a-j at room temperature in the presence of excess of amines.
