3,3-Dialkoxybicyclo [2.2.2]oct-5-en-2-one derivatives were prepared from methyl vanillate, methyl isovanillate and 2-methoxy-4-methylphenol in one-flask and two-step reactions: oxidation with iodobenzene diacetate and inter- and intramolecular Diels-Alder reactions of thus-obtained masked o-benzoquinones.
