Optically active trifluorolactic acid (1????) was synthesized from optically active 1,2-epoxy-3,3,3-trifluoropropane (2????) by nitric acid oxidation. This nitric acid oxidation proceeded smoothly with a prior addition of a catalytic amount of copper metal.
