A stereospecific and high yielding synthesis of cis- and trans-Galbanolenes is described utilizing a novel triene synthesis, the Na(Hg) reductive elimination of 1,6-dibenzoate-2,4-dienes and 1,4-dibenzoate-2-alkenes.
