A synthetic route towards the protoberberines is reported. The key transformations are derived from the intramolecular cyclization of C2′, functionalized 1,2-diarylethylamides under. Bischler-Napieralski reaction conditions. This procedure afforded the quinolizidine nucleus of these alkaloids in one-pot.
