Treatment of N-tosylpyrazole (1) with tert-butyllithium at -78 °C in tetrahydrofuran and alkylation of the resulting organolithium with a variety of electrophiles, gave rise to a number of C-5 substituted 1-tosylpyrazoles 3 in good to excellent yield.
