The synthesis of 6-O-(2-amino-2-deoxy-α-D-glucopyranosyl)-1-O-dihydrogenphosphoryl-D-myo-inositol 1 as a putative insulin mimic is reported, using a microbial oxidation of benzene as an important step to provide the necessary starting material 2.
