Facile, selective O-addition of tris(hydroxymethyl)-aminomethane (1; 2-amino-2-hydroxymethylpropane-1,3-diol) to acrylonitrile afforded after ethanolysis amine building block 3 [tris(2-ethoxycarbonylethoxymethyl)aminomethane] suitable for 4-directional dendritic construction. Subsequent incorporation of an arylamino moiety afforded a useful [1 → 6]-cascade molecule.
