A Novel Reaction of 4-Hydroxycoumarins and Synthesis of 4-Fluorocoumarins 6-Chlorohydroxycoumarins dimerise on reaction with sulfur(IV) fluoride to 6,8′-dichloro-2,2,4,4-tetrafluoro-4′-oxospiro[2H-1-benzopyran-3(4H), 2′(4′H)-[1]benzopyrano[3,4-d][1,3]oxathiazole]. The novel 4-Fluorocoumarins are obtained from the corresponding 4-Chlorocoumarins by an halogen-exchange reaction.
