2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-(trifluoromethylpyridyl)phenols are electrosynthesized via SRN1 reaction of chloro(trifluoromethyl)-pyridines with 2,6-di-tert-butylphenoxide. The tert-butyl groups are then eliminated by a transalkylation reaction, using trifluoromethanesulfonic acid and toluene.
