A mild and stable new chromium(VI) reagent from trimethylamine is described. Trimethylammonium chlorochromate (TMACC, 1) alone or in conjunction with molecular sieves oxidizes alcohols in aprotic solvents to carbonyl compounds efficiently in quantitative yields. It oxidizes selectively allylic alcohols to corresponding aldehydes without isomerization. Dodecanol (2b) is oxidized to dodecanal (3b) in good yield.
