Palladium-catalyzed twofold coupling reactions of 1,2-dibromocycloalkenes 4, 7 with alkenes 2 give high yields of (E,Z,E)-1.3,5-hexatrienes 5, 8 which thermally cyclize to ringannulated 1,3-cyclohexadienes 6, 9. Two-, three- and fourfold Heck type coupling reactions were also achieved with vicinal di-13, tri- 16, and tetrabromobenzene 18 under appropriate conditions.
