Novel aluminum chloride catalyzed hydrosilylation of 1-methylcyclohexene with dimethylchlorosilane proceeds regioselectively and in a trans manner to give cis-2-methyl-1-(dimethylchlorosilyl)cyclohexane, which is converted to cis-2-methylcyclohexanol for structure identification by the oxidative cleavage of the Si-C bond with retention of configuration.
