Dichlorophosphine complexes M-P(R)Cl2 [M = Fe(CO)4, Cr(CO)5, W(CO)5] are reduced by tributylphosphine and zinc in tetrahydrofuran to give the corresponding phospha-Wittig reagents M-P(R)=PBu3. These species convert aldehydes R1CHO into phosphaalkene complexes M-P(R)=CHR1.
