Dicyanoketene-, dialkoxycarbonylketene- and alkoxycarbonyl(cyano) ketene ethylene acetals can be conveniently prepared by reaction of malononitrile, dialkyl malonates and alkyl cyanoacetates with 2-chloroethyl chloroformate.
