We show that a number of 4-substituted isoxazoles (4-cyano, 4-ethoxy-carbonyl) can be prepared efficiently from either triformylmethane or its trisdimethylimino precursor. We also report the preparation of cyano(formyl)acetamidine, a compound containing three different functional groups attached to one carbon atom.
