The reaction between ethyl (E)-3-Methoxy-2-butenoate (1) and some substituted benzaldehydes 2 in the presence of sodium hydride leads to 5-aryl-3-methoxy-(2E,4E)-2,4-pentadienoic acids 3. The UV,IR and 1H- and 13C-NMR spectral data for the compounds synthesized are presented and discussed.
