Synthesis of Heptafulvenes and Related Seven-Membered Ring Systems from Triafulvenes Triafulvenes 1 are reacted with a series of donor substituted 1,3-dienes 2 in a Diels-Alder addition to yield bicyclic methylene cyclopropanes 3. The primary Diels-Alder adducts are transformed either to 1,6-diphenyl-substituted heptafulvenes 5 or to other seven-membered ring systems 6-9,12.
