Significance
Silica-supported iodoarene-RuCl3 bifunctional catalysts 3 and 4 were synthesized according to the scheme (1). Catalyst 3 or 4 promoted the oxidation of alcohols 5 and alkylarenes 7 in the presence of a stoichiometric amount of oxone to give the corresponding carbonyl compounds 6 and 8 in up to 98% yield (23 examples).
