Significance
A new preparation of aryl nitriles from aryl halides is described. This reaction is mediated by copper and the source of cyanide is a combination of N,N-dimethylformamide and NH4HCO3. Electron-rich aryl halides give slightly higher yields than those possessing electron-withdrawing groups.
