Significance

Stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD-1) is implicated in the biosynthesis of monounsaturated fatty acids that are essential components of membrane phospholipids, cholesterol esters, and triglycerides. MK-8245 is a liver-targeted SCD-1 inhibitor with potential for the treatment of type-2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, and obesity.
