Significance

Acetalization of aldehydes and ketones with methanol using metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as heterogeneous solid acid catalysts was described. The reaction of aldehydes (16 examples) and ketones (2 examples) with a copper-containing MOF [Cu3(BTC)2] (BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate) gave the corresponding dimethyl acetals in 9-94% yield.
