Significance

In this work a general catalytic system for the β-selective arylation of thiophene C-H bonds with iodoarenes is reported. The authors ascertained in a thorough screening of substrates that the protocol proceeds with catalyst control and can also be applied to fused thiophene rings. Moreover, functional groups, such as esters and nitro groups, can be tolerated.
