Significance
The enzyme-mediated enantioselective hydrolysis of water-soluble polymer-supported caboxylates is described. Thus, mono-methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (MPEG, average MW 5000) supported carboxylates (±)-7 were prepared from (±)-phenylethanol 1 in four steps. The hydrolysis of (±)-7a-g was performed with Novozym 435 in hexane-buffer (9:1) to afford the enantioenriched (R)-1 and the unreacted (S)-7a-g.
