Significance

In continuing their use of chiral bis(oxazolinyl)phenyl (Phebox) ligands in asymmetric synthesis, the authors apply a Ru-Phebox system to alkynylation of aldehydes. The system was previously used for asymmetric hydrogenation, transfer hydrogenation, and cyclopropanation (Chem. Commun. 2008, 1923; Chem. Eur. J. 2010, 16, 4986; Organometallics 2009, 28, 630)
