Significance

A palladium-catalyzed reductive cross-coupling of 1,3-dienes with boronic esters is reported. In this reaction, the palladium catalyst is reduced by isopropanol and then hydrometalates the 1,3-diene. The resulting π-allylpalladium species are readily arylated by a variety of aryl­boronic esters.
