A route based on deaminohalogenation of serine is established
to synthesize bromoinimers that can be homopolymerized to produce
hyperbranched polyacrylates that are true architectural analogues
of linear polyacrylates; that is, an ester group is attached to every
other carbon along the polymer backbone, and each repeat unit contains
a free ester side chain.
