Abstract

A simple, efficient and mild method for the selective bromination of activated aromatic compounds using ammonium bromide as the source of bromine and Oxone® as the oxidant in methanol or water as solvent is reported. The reaction proceeds at ambient temperature in yields ranging from moderate to excellent without a catalyst.
