Zusammenfassung
In Tierversuchen mit Quarz sowie mit Quarz in Kombination mit Kohle und einer hochpolymeren
Verbindung, Polyvinylpyridin-N-oxyd (P204), zeigte sich, daß die letztgenannte Verbindung
den Makrophagen einen weitgehenden Schutz gegen den aufgenommenen Quarzstaub verleiht,
so daß deren Nekrose ausbleibt und die für die normale Quarzwirkung typische fortschreitende
Bindegewebsbildung und Hyalinisierung nicht auftreten. Die Behandlung mit Polyvinylpyridin-N-oxyd
ist also kausal.
Summary
In experiments on rats and mice using quartz as well as quartz in combination with
coal and with a high polymer, polyvinylpyridine-N-oxide (P 204), it was shown that
P 204 provided the macrophages with considerable protection against quartz dust, as
a result of which their necrosis was prevented and the otherwise typical progressive
connective tissue formation and hyalinization did not occur. Treatment with polyvinylpyridine-N-oxide
thus attacks the basic cause of the condition.

Contribución a la terapia de la silicosis experimental
En experimentos animales con cuarzo así como con cuarzo eñ combinación con carbón
y un compuesto de alta polimería, polivinilpiridina-N-óxido (P204), se mostró, que el compuesto mencionado otorga a los macrófagos una protección amplia
contra el polvo de cuarzo inhalado, de modo que su necrosis no tiene lugar y no sobrevienen
la progresiva formación de tejido conjuntivo e hialinización típicas para el efecto
normal del cuarzo. El tratamiento con polivinilpiridina-N-óxido es por lo tanto causal.
